SACRED SOUNDS SEMINAR: ARTS, FAITH AND LOCATION
On behalf of Alchemy, in partnership with the Nishkam Centre, SAA-uk and the Network for Sikh Organisations, we would like to invite you to this seminar hosted as part of the wider programme for Sacred Sounds: Sikh Music Traditions and the First World War www.alchemyanew.co.uk
We are deeply honoured that the inaugural address will be delivered by Bhai Sahib Bhai Mohinder Singh OBE, KSG, Chairman of Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha (GNNSJ) & Nishkam Civic Association, Birmingham. Bhai Sahib is renowned for his active engagement with interfaith and inter-religious collaboration for international peace and harmony locally, nationally and internationally as well as to community service, education and research. He holds the Juliet Hollister Award from the Temple of Understanding; past awardees include His Holiness the Dalia Lama and Nelson Mandela. He is also a recipient of the Papal Knighthood of St Gregory the Great (KSG).
We are also delighted to announce that our other speakers are Mandeep Kaur, appointed in 2005 as the first Sikh Civilian Chaplain in the British Armed Forces and Nick Reed, Chief Executive, Town Hall Symphony Hall Birmingham who has a wealth of experience of leading theatres and concert halls in England and Wales, including Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
This second Sacred Sounds national seminar: Arts, Faith and Location explores the staging of ambitious arts projects in faith centres. Hosting arts events in unusual locations is not a new concept. However, what makes for a potentially unique and richer relationship between mainstream venues and faith centres is the embedding of audiences from the latter into the former. This can not only be a more creative way of diversifying arts audiences, but can also lead to new audiences being more experimental about the choices they make in relation to the shows with which they engage.
A full programme will follow in due course. We would be delighted if you could join us for what promises to be an extremely interesting event.
The seminar event is free but booking is essential. To book a place please click on https://sacredsoundsuk-seminartwo.eventbrite.co.uk ...
